“The Mathematics of Machine Learning” at Scuola Normale Superiore

“The Mathematics of Machine Learning” has started at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa! Some of MaLGa’s faculty members are part of the organizing committee and presenting at the event: a school and a workshop taking place between the 16th and the 27th of January.

The plan of both the school and workshop is to bring together Machine Learning researchers working on theoretical questions at the interface between mathematics and computer science. The speakers will introduce the mathematical foundations of Machine Learning, discuss the current state of the art, but also highlight future research directions and open problems. The lectures will target a broad audience of early stage mathematicians (Ph.D and advanced MSc students). In particular, the introductory week will focus on MSclevel courses introducing the mathematical basis of machine learning. 

The boot-camp week focuses on Statistical Learning Theory and Regularization (E. De Vito and S. Salzo), Optimization for Machine Learning (S. Villa), Optimal Transport and Machine Learning (S. Di Marino, A. Gerolin) .

The workshop will instead focus on more recent research topics, and will be articulated into three different mini-courses taught by S. Chewi, G. Carleo, F. Vicentini and A. Rudi.
